What’s My Why?

Welcome to my page and thank you for stopping by. My name is Dr. Anita Jack-Davies (and please call me AJ!). My life’s mission is to write and teach the world about social justice and I’m passionate about my life’s work. I’ve been involved in the field of inclusion and belonging for 20 years, since starting my first job as a teacher at a Toronto-based inner city school and working in low-income schools for the first five years of my career.

Based on my experiences teaching in urban and inner-city contexts, I went on to earn a PhD in urban teacher education, specializing in teaching teachers how to work in communities marked by increasing poverty, immigration and diversity.

Upon completing my doctoral degree, I started my boutique DEI consulting practice and have worked with Canadian agencies as The Privy Council’s Office (Government of Canada), Global Affairs Canada, Corrections Canada, the RCMP, Queen’s University, Toronto Metropolitan University, Durham Regional Police and the Kingston Police.

As an academic, I’ve taught courses at both the graduate and undergraduate level, including Gender Studies and Cultural Geography. Today, I work as an HR Management Consultant in New York City. I specialize in helping organizations transform their cultures to reflect inclusion and belonging with a focus on strategic planning. I welcome the opportunity to work with your team.

Data shows that companies in the top quartile for both gender and ethnic diversity in leadership are 9% more likely to outperform their peers. However, women’s representation in senior executive positions is at an almost 20-year low. I’m thrilled to have been selected as a panelist at Chief, the largest community of senior executive women in NYC, about this important topic. The panel was nothing short or riveting and was a special night indeed.
